Visa and MasterCard has notified us some of our debit card customersí information is involved in the recent security breach at Target.
Our normal procedure for suspected compromised information is to notify the customer and let them decide if they want to close their card and obtain a new one, or if they want to keep their card active and monitor their account for suspicious activity. However, due to the nature and magnitude of the breach of Targetís payment system, we have determined we need to take a proactive approach to protect our customersí accounts. Therefore, when Visa or MasterCard notifies us a customerís card information was compromised as a result of this, we will immediately close the card and order a new one for the customer. When cards are reissued under these circumstances a new PIN must also be issued. We will make every attempt to contact the customers and notify them of the closing.
We realize closing a card could cause inconvenience to a customer, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but we feel this is necessary to protect our customers.
